L61/L62      DELLNER COUPLINGS & CLASS 57 PIPES £2.99

Graham Farish Class 57 models in 2mm N-gauge do not have radiator pipework as per the prototypes. So far no models have been released in N scale with Dellner couplings fitted as per the Class 57/3 engines.

In 4mm OO scale, for Virgin livery, Bachmann released 32-760 "LADY PENELOPE" 57307 and a limited run 32-760Z "JEFF TRACY" with Dellner couplings moulded in. One more Bachmann model 32-751 and several Heljan models were released in the Virgin livery, as the Class 57/3 engines entered service with original couplings. In real life, the sixteen Class 57/3 engines all now have Dellner couplings built in to the noses. There have been a number of variations in the couplings with different heads and arrangements of pipework, and even engine running with the coupling gear partly removed, leaving a cavity.

Photographs of the real-life engines can be found at the following independent site:
www.class47.co.uk

We have taken photographic images of the modern Dellner couplings and pipework and printed them at scale on our thin plastic film self-adhesive labels. In both 4mm OO and N-gauge 2mm scales, it is now possible to do a simple Dellner coupling conversion without attacking your model. Note these are not waterproof but varnishing will seal them.

In the middle photo below, on the right is Bachmann's 32-760 model which comes with Dellner couplings moulded in to the nose. Next to it is their other 57/3 model, 32-751 which has one of our label conversions applied. Note as per the real thing, the bottom section is coloured black with a grey circle, and the ends of the hoses are coloured red and yellow. To avoid removing the front steps we cut slits in the label sides, but in real life the steps are removed. The right-most photo shows the latest Dellner type on 57310, painted by Jim Coates.

The L61 & L62 Labels. 32-751 With L61 Label, 32-760 With Built-In Coupler. An L61 Label Deployed.

For OO 4mm, we produce the Class 57 style radiator pipes in pack L110C, which is listed with other details for the FM Rail Blue Pullman train. The pipes might be needed for a Class 47 update project as some refurbished engines now carry them, while most Class 57 models in 4mm scale have had the pipes moulded on.

For 7mm, 4mm OO and 2mm, we produce 3D printed models of these items in the Marketplace section of our site. For Class 57 Dellner coupling options, see K14-*. For Class 47/57 radiator pipes see K15-*.

See also the Precision Decals packs D61-* in the Liveries section, with D62-* and D63-* in the Stock section, for the latest 57/3 Arriva Trains Wales livery details. Each labels pack here contains enough items to apply to up to three engines.

For those respraying a model to the ThunderbirdsTM livery, note that Fox Transfers produce class 57 Virgin livery details with numbers, lining and everything except the nameplates. For N 2mm see pack "F2761/15": www.fox-transfers.co.uk
